Darb Zubaydah

The history of the pilgrim road from Kufa to Makkah dates back to the pre-Islamic era, when it was used by tribes and commercial caravans to travel between Mesopotamia and Arabia.

During the Islamic era, the trail served as an important pilgrim route linking Baghdad and Kufa with Makkah and Madinah. The Abbasid Caliphs enhanced the road with rest-stops, wells, cisterns for storing water, and lighthouses.
